I loved the story! It really gets you thinking!

Great story! Moves really quickly and says a lot. Got my mind going -- I think the ideas and the way scripture is quoted makes it a perfect read for people like me, who care about what's going on and who want a better future for our kids.

I wish this novel's President Craftsman had been our real leader after 9/11! One of the main things is the teaching about "turning the other cheek" -- the way that is explained and handled in the story is great, because it shows how strong and sure of yourself you have to be to "turn the other cheek". I recommend it to people at my church and I think it is something young people will also find really interesting.

I love the way you handle the "End Times" and all this Apocalypse talk these days. My church went through this "Revelations" phase and I didn't get what they were talking about. I know its part of the Bible but you really show how the teachings of Jesus are way more important, and how they lead to a better world.

The best part is how the "river of grace" enters the world and then enters the heart of that one general too. It's a great story and I gave it to my book club.

Imagining What the Bush Administration Could Have Been... |

Since the beginning, Christians have understood Jesus in one of two ways: Jesus is a warrior leading Christian Soldiers in a global battle against Satan. Or, Jesus is a radical spiritual teacher leading us beyond hatred and endless conflict. A Christian’s politics arise from the Jesus he worships. On the eve of the September 11, 2001 attack, President G.W. Bush, millions of Evangelical Christians, and millions of fans of the Left Behind series banded together in the Christian Soldier camp. They believed that reality was a battle between Good and Evil, between Jesus and Satan, and that in this battle physical war was required. They believed that the attacks justified retaliating against Afghanistan, passing the Patriot Act, and starting a war against Iraq. But what if, on 9/11, the President had been a man who believed in the other Jesus – Jesus the radical spiritual teacher? What if the President thought that the Sermon on the Mount was more important than the Book of Revelations? Certainly, things would have been different if the spirituality of the country's leadership had not been so deeply infused with the belief that the End Times had begun. A different Christian President might have believed that Jesus wanted him to lead the world away from war. He might have believed that American liberty was too precious to compromise. Faced with the same attack, and the same threat, how would he respond? How would he lead? How would the world react? |
Reviews in the Press: I could not put it down. Sort of a cross between an episode of The West Wing and a really good Bible study group discussion. [Lombardo] raises some wonderful points. Doug Stivison This book is 92 pages long and I originally sat down at about 11:30 at night to read the first bit of it -- and I stayed up until 5:00 AM to finish it. This book takes the reader in and puts you in the plot and it doesn't let you go until the book is done spilling its story out to you. I am priveliged to have reviewed this book.
